Vongola, Cavallone, Bovino, Neuvo With roots stretching back to the 200s BC, the Cosa Nostra, or Sicilian Mafia, is one of the main contributors to the 'Flame Race' of the modern era.
It was born out of the necessity to maintain order in an environment where order cannot be found, where the government disregarded its people. So the people took over. And the people became Cosa Nostra. And the Cosa Nostra caught fire. |

Serpico, Estraneo, Giglio Nero, Gesso, Tomaso Influenced by the encroachment of the Cosa Nostra on mainland Italy, various other groups have sprung into existence. Where the Cosa Nostra heavily favored 'Sicilian Purity' of its members, the rest of the 'mafia' were not so picky. Some groups are not even headed by Italians.
Unlike the real world, here the Italian Mafia have reached up into Northern Italy, rather than being concentrated down in Southern Italy. They are more spread out than they are in the real world, but there are also slightly more of them to fill in all the empty spaces. |

Difo, Shen Xian, Long Lian Began in the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong. Their origins trace back to the original Three Harmonies Society, a fratenal organization and religious folk sect that reveres the Heavenly Beings and the Flame phenomenon.
As Hong Kong fell under British rule, all secret societies were heavily criminalized and nearly wiped out through ban and forcing the people to go elsewhere for assistance. Following WWII, criminal groups took over the concept of 'secret societies', and 'triad' became a term used for the Underworld rather than for the Three Harmonies Society. |
